She was born in Derry, NH and was the runt of the litter. It was clear from her brave struggle to stay alive that she was a very special piglet. Pigs are very smart and Victoria is no exception. She loves to walk with me and the dogs every and "helps" me clean out the stalls in the afternoon. Yesterday was her first snow storm. She wasn't so sure about the snow at first. She took one look outside and came running back into the barn and slid on some snow I had tracked into the barn. I thought it would scare her but again she went outside and came running back in and slid on the snow. By the third time, I realized that this was no mistake and she was purposely trying to slide across the floor. What a character! I sat on the floor and scratched her behind the ears and she climbed into my lap and fell asleep. Exhausted from her very exciting game!

Renting a bull!

On August 6, Lee drove to Vermont to pick up the bull. On his way home through Franconia Notch he looked at the rearview mirror and saw the bull trying to get out of the back of the trailer. Some how he had managed to get out of his halter! Lee was able to retie him and the rest of the journey proceeded uneventfully. The girls named the little bull Henry. He was very kind and got pushed around a lot by the steers and the heifers. Eventually, he and our heifer Brooke became friends. Saturday, we drove to Meadow Brook Farm in Lyndon, Vermont to check out a potential mate for the heifers. Sunday, we began fencing the lower pasture with our beautiful cedar split rail fence we got up in Colebrook. We borrowed a friend's post hole digger and the first 3 fence post went in with ease. Then we hit rocks! We got about 60 feet of fence done and finally called it a day. On Monday, the cupola went up on the barn with our new weather vane. Three sunny days in a row. Unheard of this summer!

Wild Strawberries

The cloudy rainy weather that we seem to be stuck in has not helped the garden.
